Dark Souls is unique, the scenarios convey a feeling of darkness and loneliness, reminding me a lot of Berserk, and the sound only contributes to this feeling. The bulk of the story is told through the description of items, but this doesn't made the game worse since each of the npc's stories fill that gap.
Hollowing in the Dark Soul is a deep concept, it's a microcosmo of losing your purpose on the real world or can also be seen as a metaphor for depression, those that go hollow submit to their darkest feelings, their sadness, dread, they give up and lose themselves, life is about overcoming challenges, solving problems, encarving some meaning out of your existence, what value does a persons life have if they don't try to acomplish something? What satisfaction do you get from life when there are no problems to solve? Just as characters go hollow in Dark Souls you to would go hollow in the real world if you did nothing with your life.
Dark Souls is clearly one of the best videogames of history with a lot more concepts i can't comprehend right now, but i sure want to explore them in the future.
